The CICO professional is recognized as having a thorough knowledge and understanding of a current Microsoft Windows operating system, the basic computer concepts, Internet an Web Page Design, Microsoft Office XP application packages Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

The Certified in Computer operations program is a skill-based examination that is designed to meet the needs of the technically oriented candidates. The approach is from an end-user point of view, with emphasis on the utilitarian nature of the computer. The passing of the CICO examination would be a demonstration that candidates: understand basic computer operation principles, can operate and take care of a computer and its common peripherals and know how to use the computer to accomplish given tasks using suitable common software packages.

Examination Dates and Time:

Each of the part of the examination is two and one-half hours in duration. The exam is a combination of paper format and computerization, and is offered as follows:-

  • The last Friday and Saturday in each month commencing at 9:00 a.m. ? 6:00 p.m.
  • Candidates should schedule their preferred time early to ensure the availability of space and computer terminal. International candidates can take the exam at an approved location with an approved proctor. All results are mailed out on the third Wednesday after the examination.

Examination Board:

There is a five member examination board, all of whom are Qualified Computer operations Professionals.

Program Overview:

The ?Certified in Computer operations? (CICO)program examines several main microcomputer software packages used in business and to the components of an information system include spreadsheets, data-base management, word processing, data entry and retrieval records management, and electronic communication.

The conceptual framework of the Certified in Computer operations program is based on

the understanding that the computer is to be seen as a tool to help make work

more productive and improve the quality of life. The computer user actively

determines how use the computer. The common applications act as the interface between the user and the machine. This interface allows for the examination on how to exploit the power of the computer.

Upon successfully completing the CICO program candidates would be able to demonstrate:-

  1. Their understanding of the basic computer concepts and know how to purchase install, and maintain a personal computer.
  2. Their knowledge of the Internet.
  3. How to use a recent version of the Microsoft Windows operating system.
  4. Their ability to create documents including various attributes, graphics, and textboxes using the Word Application.
  5. Their ability to create Web pages.
  6. Their knowledge in Excel Terminology, the Excel Window, speech recognition and speech playback and the basic characteristics of a worksheet and workbook.
  7. Their abilities to use formulas and functions to build a worksheet and learn more about formatting and printing a worksheet.
  8. Their ability to work with larger worksheet, create a worksheet based on assumptions, use the IF function and the absolute cell references, charting techniques, and perform what-if analysis.
  9. Their ability to create a new folder and create static Web pages and dynamic Web pages.
  10. Their ability to create query, and maintain database files using the design and datasheet views of the Access database application package.
  11. Their ability to create presentations including transitions and animation using the PowerPoint application package.
