The Certified in Business Administration (CIBA) program is designed to test the candidates knowledge on numerous functions and activities in the Business environment. In this comprehensive study program, Emphasis is placed on the economic and social environments of business and forms of ownership, as well as the management, organization, finance, operations, production, marketing, automation, and control functions of business organizations. The CIBA program will enable a student to think critically and will integrate an approach that will provide opportunities for study of the synergy among business functions.

Additionally, the Certified in Business Administration (CIBA) program provides the student with professional capability to deal with the technical complexities in the area of Business Administration and Management. The student will also possess the ability to reason and independently make decisions, possess written and oral communication skills, possess the requisite computer skills, have an appreciation for human condition, and have an appreciation of the global dimensions of the economy of business.

Examination Dates and Time:

Each of the part of the examination is two and one-half hours in duration. The exam is a combination of paper format and computerization, and is offered as follows:-

  • The last Friday and Saturday in each month commencing at 9:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m.
  • Candidates should schedule their preferred time early to ensure the availability of space and computer terminal. International candidates can take the exam at an approved location with an approved proctor. All results are mailed out on the third Wednesday after the examination.

Examination Board:

There is a five member examination board, all of whom are Qualified Business, Management and Financial Professionals.

Program Overview:

The Certified in Business Administration (CIBA) designation is intended to ensure that students understanding of the role and function of the business enterprise within the American/Bahamian economic framework. Some of the aspects of business included are organization, management/leadership, marketing, finance and accounting, production, ethics, service/volunteerism and economics.

The CIBA examination covers a broad area of business and financial related topics. These inclusive in the program to certify that candidates:-

    1. Understand the function of business in the American/Bahamian social and economic systems and an ability to apply this knowledge to given situations.
    2. Have the ability to examine the way businesses operate in the major functional areas of production and operations, marketing, accounting and finance, personnel, information and control, and to apply these basic practices to given situations.
    3. Understand management philosophy in the context of the principles of service and servant leadership.
    4. Have the ability to integrate these principles into a working, viable philosophy that will assist them in maintaining their integrity within a business field.

Further, the CIBA designation is to provide candidates with the overall process and concepts involved in business and its operations. It represents the fact that successful examination candidates have the articulation to perform at various levels in the field of business. The awarding of the CIBA is a testimony that the candidate has developed a foundation and knowledge of resource possibilities for all areas in the business curriculum. These candidates will be in a position to:-

  • Provide a perspective of the concepts, principles, and operations of the private enterprise system.
  • Provide a perspective of the private enterprise system, or capitalism, as an economic system and compare it to other economic systems.
  • Provide a perspective of the businesses that comprise the business scene, the roles they play, the strengths they have, and their observable similarities and differences.
  • Introduce the sole proprietorship, partnership and corporation as legal forms of business ownership: the nature of each, the processes involved in creating each, and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
  • Introduce the need for management in business organizations and the role of management in developing an organization structure, acquiring human resources, and creating a supportive work environment.
  • Explore the production function, its purposes, elements, and processes.
  • Examine the marketing function and to describe the concepts and processes involved in designing product strategy, promotional strategy, distribution strategy, and pricing strategy.
  • Explore the importance of and the role of the financial management function, and to illustrate the concepts and processes involved in managing the acquisition and allocation of short and long-term funds.
  • Examine the risk management function and to describe the concepts, processes, and strategies involved in managing risk in a business.
  • Explore the information management function and to describe the concepts and processes involved in creating and utilizing a management information system.
  • Identify and describe the influence of the environments created by labor, government regulation, social responsibility, law, and the economy on business decisions, actions, and operations.
  • Explore the challenges facing a business and the business community as a result of the impact of high technology, the productivity dilemma, and business on an international scale.
  • Define marketing and describe the forces that constitute the external marketing environment, explain market segmentation and show how it is used in target marketing, explain the purpose and value of marketing research, describe the key factors that influence the consumer buying process, Discus the three categories of organizational marketing and explain how organizational buying behavior differs from consumer buying behavior.
